Wood you Know Trouble if you Saw it?

Sarasota, Florida, is renowned for the Ringling Brothers and their legendary circus, featuring animals, trapeze artists, clowns, and those iconic tents in vibrant reds, blues, and yellows. But the circus tents aren't the only ones you'll see around Sarasota. Cue the ominous music, da dum… da da da dum…—if you haven't noticed yet, there are also giant tents covering homes to manage termite infestations!

While you might not have experienced termites to such an extent, there are plenty of warning signs to watch out for before an infestation gets out of hand:

  1. Mud Tubes: Check exterior walls, wooden beams, and planks, and don't forget the crawl space. These are tunnels that termites use to travel and are a clear sign of their presence.

  2. Discarded Wings: Termites shed their wings, often found on windowsills or near doorways.

  3. Termite Droppings: Look for small piles of droppings, resembling tiny granules of quinoa, couscous, or maple sugar—gross, but a sure sign of termites.

  4. Bubbling or Uneven Paint: If paint appears bubbled or uneven long after drying, termites could be munching away underneath.

  5. Hollow-Sounding Wood: Tap on walls, floors, cabinets, and any wood material. If it sounds hollow, termites might have made it their meal.

Termites typically swarm in the spring and summer, searching for new places to colonize. But don't relax in the fall and winter—vigilance is key year-round.

At Fi Home Services, our quarterly home inspections give you peace of mind. We proactively search for termites and other potential issues before they become emergencies. Trust the experts at Fi Home Services to keep your home termite-free and reserve the big tents for the circus.
